Welcome to Crescent City Outreach, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the homeless population of New Orleans. It was founded in 2007 by B.B. St. Roman and Sam Scaffidi, who together had developed the  Homeless Assistance Unit of the New Orleans Police Department starting in 2004. The Unit serves as a first responder to persons stranded in the streets and acts as a valuable diversion from the criminal justice system. However, the Homeless Assistance Unit does not receive any funds from the Police Department or the City to enhance its services to the homeless. Therefore, it became a necessity to create Crescent City Outreach in order to receive donations and thereby be able to purchase items such as Louisiana State IDs, shelter vouchers, food, clothing, personal hygiene items, doctors’ prescriptions, and much more — whatever it takes to supply those on the streets with the first immediate necessities to transition back into society.

Crescent City Outreach receives most of its donations from individuals who have a desire to help the homeless but do not know how best to make their contributions count. Funds channeled through Crescent City Outreach go directly to the homeless right on the spot, when some small item can make all the difference. One day it might be just a cold drink or a pair of socks. Another day it might be a bus ticket back home somewhere across the country, whatever is deemed the most appropriate solution at the time.
